A “Crowning” Achievement in Dental Care

Dental Crown

The term “crown” sounds regal, doesn’t it? A dental crown may not be royal terminology, but it does describe an important restorative tool used by cosmetic dentists to repair the size, shape, and strength of a tooth.

Our cosmetic dentist in San Mateo, Dr. Michael Wong, also uses dental crowns to improve the appearance of teeth that are cracked, chipped, or badly discolored.

Why Consider a Dental Crown?

There are many reasons why a dentist may suggest a crown to repair and restore the function and appearance of your teeth. For example, teeth can become weak due to decay, cracks, or heavy wear. Sometimes teeth need extra support due to large fillings, or perhaps they are misshapen or an unpleasant color.

A crown is a “cap” that is molded and placed over the tooth that needs rescue; it is cemented in place to firmly encase the entire tooth above the gum line for added strength and improved appearance.

Here’s How It’s Done

Our San Mateo dental team will make a mold of your tooth (also known as an impression) so that the crown will be an exact fit. Dr. Wong may need to reshape the tooth as well as nearby teeth for a proper fit, but we’ll make sure that you are comfortable as we work. (We offer movies, headphones, warm neck pillows, and warm towels to help you relax)!

We create healthy smiles at San Mateo Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, and our goal is to ensure that teeth not only function properly but that they are attractive as well.

If you have cracked, misshapen, or discolored teeth that bother you, contact us today for a consultation. Dental crowns may be the answer to brightening your smile and improving your self-confidence too!
